Easy mahjong with big tiles
This is mahjong solitaire on the Easy board, with Big cards switched on: 72 tiles in just two layers, drawn as large as your screen allows, with a darker outline around every tile so each one is easy to pick out. The buttons are bigger too, and each one says what it does.
The Easy board is easier in another way. On the classic board there are four of most tiles, and taking the wrong two can leave you stuck later. Here every tile has exactly one partner, so whenever you find a free pair, taking it is always right. It is a good place to learn the game, or simply to relax.
Free mahjong, with nothing to download
- Free, with no sign-up. Play right here in your browser on a computer, a tablet or a phone.
- Every deal can be cleared. There is always a way to take every tile.
- A hint whenever you want one. Hint shows a pair you can take and says why, in one sentence.
- Undo as often as you like, and your game is saved in this browser if you need to stop.
How to play
Clear the board by taking away matching tiles in pairs. You can only take a tile that is free: nothing lies on top of it, and its left side or its right side is open. Pick one free tile, then a free tile that matches it, and both disappear. The full rules, with pictures.
- Matching tiles are identical: two East Winds, two 5 of Bamboo. The exceptions are the flowers and the seasons: any flower matches any other flower, and any season any season. Every tile and its name.
- Hint shows a pair you can take and explains why, in one sentence. It always picks a pair that keeps the whole board clearable.
- Undo takes back your last match, as often as you like.
- Shuffle re-deals the tiles that are left so that they can all be cleared again. Use it when no free pairs are left.
Controls
Click or tap a tile to pick it, then click or tap its partner. With a keyboard, Tab moves between the free tiles and Enter or Space picks one. H asks for a hint, U undoes, S shuffles and Esc lets go of a picked tile.
Tiles you cannot take yet are shown a little darker, so the free ones stand out. You can turn that off in Settings, where you can also make the text larger.
How to make the tiles even bigger
On a computer, a larger window gives larger tiles. On a phone or a tablet, the Easy board fills the width of the screen, with only eight tiles across. For larger words as well, open Settings at the top of the page and choose a larger text size. To go back to the usual size, press the Big cards button above the board.
When you are ready for more
Mahjong Relax plays the classic 144-tile Turtle with no clock at all, and shuffles for you when no pair is left. For cards instead of tiles, try large print solitaire, or see all our free games for seniors.
